BSOD Insight User Guide
Overview
This DEX Pack Lite displays information about blue screen (BSOD) events discovered in the environment.
All data in this DEX pack is from an aggregated 90 day range.
How This Feature Helps You
The BSOD Insight DEX Pack is a diagnostic tool designed to help IT teams monitor, analyze, and resolve blue screen (BSOD) events across their environment. Here are the key benefits:
-
Comprehensive BSOD Monitoring: Displays all BSOD events detected in the environment, including the error name, code, number of occurrences, and affected systems.
-
Root Cause Analysis: Provides detailed information for each BSOD, including links to Microsoft documentation for further context and troubleshooting.
-
Correlation Analysis: The correlation between BSODs and the systems they appear on is visually represented in the dashboard using color intensity. A stronger correlation is indicated by a deeper color.
-
System-Level Insights
-
Shows which systems experienced specific BSODs, how often, and when the first and last occurrences happened.
-
Helps identify patterns or recurring issues tied to specific hardware models or configurations.
-
-
Drill-Down Capabilities
-
Allows users to click into a BSOD event to view detailed parameters (in decimal or hexadecimal) and system-specific data.
-
Enables targeted troubleshooting and remediation.
-
-
Group Filtering: Lets IT teams filter data by system groups (departments, locations) to focus on specific segments of the organization.
-
Improved Uptime and Stability: By identifying and addressing BSOD trends, organizations can reduce system crashes and improve overall endpoint reliability.
BSOD Summary
The BSOD Summary section displays the name, number of occurrences, and the number of systems affected for each BSOD event.
In the Group drop-down list at the top of the section, you can select a group by which to limit the data that appears in the other sections on the page. The default for Group is All Systems.
The Metric drop-down list lets you choose which data to display in the table, affected systems, total BSODs, avg. BSOD count per system and affected systems (%) .Minimum Sample Size drop-down enables you to filter out low volume systems and focus on more reliable trends. Lowering the minimum sample size will remove models from the section with a system count that doesn't meet the threshold.
In the first column on the left, you can click each name to open a Microsoft article about the BSOD.
NOTE: The BSOD Names and Descriptions that appear in this dashboard are defined by Microsoft.
Click any BSOD row (not the text) to populate the Selected BSOD Details section of the page with information about that BSOD.
Selected BSOD Description
This section contains the name, the code, and the description of the BSOD you selected above in BSOD Summary.
Selected BSOD Details
This section displays details about systems that experienced the BSOD that you selected in the BSOD Summary section.
For each system that experienced the BSOD, you see the model of the system, the number of occurrences of the BSOD, the date of the first occurrence, and the date of the last occurrence.
Use the System Search text box to enter the name of the system you are looking for. Click any system row to populate the Selected System and BSOD Details section of the page with information about that system and BSOD.
Selected System and BSOD Details
This section displays details about the BSOD event occurrences for the system that you selected in the Selected BSOD Details section. For the system that you selected, you see every occurrence of the BSOD, including the date of the first occurrence, the date of the last occurrence, and BSOD parameters as decimal or hexadecimal values.
